planning your engagement session

Hello Bride-to-be! I’m so excited that you’ve booked your wedding date with me! The next step in the process is planning your engagement session, and let me tell you, it’s so much fun! On the wedding day, sometimes there are time constraints for portraits, but with your engagement session, we have the freedom of planning the location and time of day in order to get the best pictures of you two. This is also a time for you to get used to my posing process so that by the wedding day you’re pros! Last but perhaps most important, I love that the engagement session is a time we can hang out and get to know each other. By your wedding date, we’ll be good friends, and I promise I’m not hard to get along with. 🙂

My goal is to create images in an artistic way that represent your personalities and the love that you two share. That being said, one of the most important things is for you to be yourselves and feel comfortable. It’s definitely natural to feel awkward in front of the camera at first and that’s ok! But don’t be afraid to show some of your fun side!

In order to set ourselves up for success in creating amazing images, we’ll need to do some planning ahead of time. Here are some things to think about:

  1. Pick a location. Think of what look you’d like to go for: Garden, Urban, Elegant, etc. If you have a location that is special to you, let’s talk about it! But if not, check out this blog post for some of my favorites.
  2. Next plan your outfits. Here are my recommendations: wear neutrals, so that the color doesn’t distract from your faces. Also, try not to “match” each other (i.e., don’t both wear matching plaid). Instead, just complement by incorporating the color the other person is wearing as an accent in your outfit, or wearing a color in the same color palette. I also recommend bringing an outfit change for more variety. I can’t wait to meet you and your fiancé and spend time exploring and making magic happen! Please reach out to me, and we will get your engagement session scheduled!
